At the beginning of  the summer I had selected a few books to read.  I have only finished one, so far.  Rescuing Sprite, A Dog Lover’s Story of Joy and Anguish, by Mark R. Levin.  I know that this was going to be a sad story, however I did not know what would soon happen in my life after I began reading it.

After a few characters in, our family lost are beautiful Luna after 15 years.  So, I like the author was grieving.  Every time I pick it up to read I had to put it down knowing that the ending was to close to my own story.  I finely sat and finished it.

It is a simple story of a family who adopts a dog, and only is granted his love for a few short years.   You are introduced to Sprite, as a somewhat older, ailing dog, who has nothing but love for his new family.  It is mundane at times as it details the everyday events of a dog owner’s life.  The dog smelling the breeze and barking at visitors to the house.

The real lesson it is trying to achieve is to let you know it is OK to be heartbroken and grieve for your pets.  I would have liked the book to have more stories about the relation to the entire family not just the author and the advise he gets from so well-known friends. The author does do a fair job of keeping his politics out of it (google him if you have never heard of him), except of the name dropping.

It is a quick and easy read.  It did make me cry for I identified, with Mr. Levin’s loss.  However, I was disappointed that the book dwell’s on the author’s turmoil, more then the story of Sprite.  It is not one of the best dog story’s but gave me the cry I need at this time in my life.
